No more virtual queues…What’s the big deal??
Beginning February 25th, there will be no more virtual queues for Guardians of the Galaxy in EPCOT and Tiana’s Bayou Adventure in Magic Kingdom. Both rides will offer a standby line instead. So, why is this a big deal?
First of all, planning a trip to Disney is extremely complex now-a-days and adding the layer of virtual queues made it all the more challenging for families. For families to ride these very popular rides, they would have to wake up early on their park day, be on their My Disney Experience app and try to secure their virtual queue at 7AM. I’ve seen these completely fill up by 7:01AM! If you missed your chance in the morning, you’d have one more chance to jump back on the app at 1:00PM, to get one last shot at riding that ride for that day. It was intense, especially if one or both of these rides were absolute must-dos for your family.
If you were one of the lucky ones that snagged a spot in the virtual queue, you would get a group number. Then, you would be notified on the app when your group number was called, and you’d head to the ride. You’d scan in and then be permitted to join the line to ride the attraction. I’ve heard many Cast Members explaining to disappointed families that since they didn’t get a virtual queue and didn’t pay extra for Lightning Lanes, they would not be riding this ride today.
Now, those days are long gone for Guardians of the Galaxy and Tiana’s Bayou Adventure (formally known as Splash Mountain…RIP Splash Mountain). Both rides will now feature a standby line, where you walk up to the ride, get in line and ride! While wait times are expected to be high at these attractions, everyone will have to opportunity to check these rides off their list!
These rides also feature a Lightning Lane option. Single Pass Lightning Lane is still available for Guardians, and Tiana’s ride is still a part of the Multi Pass Lightning Lane, if you choose to purchase these to bypass the long waits.
